Metroid was the first entry
in the now critically acclaimed Metroid series
on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Players
were first introduced the the Samus character in
1986 who was described as a bounty hunter hired
by the Galactic Earth Federation to stop the evil
space pirates from using a recently discovered
life form as a weapon.
This
lifeform was discovered on the desolate planet
of SR388 by the space pirates and was thought
to be the reason that life (other than it) no
longer exists there. Scientists in the Earth
Federation assign the name "Metroid" to
the new lifeform and begin investigations into
it's behaviour. Investigations revealed that the
life can be devastating to other forms of life
and has gains multiplication properties when exposed
to beta rays.
Desperate for a solution to
pirate threat which has become even more dangerous
with the acquiring of this lifeform which might
be fashioned into a weapon of some sort the federation
turns to Samus to go to the space pirate's base
within the planet Zebes investigate their findings,
retrieve or destroy the metroid hatchling and defeat
the leader of the space pirates Mother Brain.
