Metroid Prime for the Nintendo
Gamecube created quite a stir in the gaming world
the minute the first information released revealed
that the previously 2D only game was being developed
by a new, untested American studio and in full
3D and with the release of the first screenshots
showing a first person shooter style of play the
Metroid fan base was divided among many mostly
negative lines.
With the release of the game
in late 2002 most if not all the detractors were
won over by the lush, detailed scenic metroid world
more detailed and engrossing that it has ever been
while still staying true to previous games in the
series.
The story in Metroid Prime takes
place between the events of the original Metroid
on the NES and the Return of Samus on the Game
Boy. It takes Samus to a new planet called Talon
IV where the space pirates have set up research
station after discovering high levels of radiation
emanating from the barren planet. The source of
the radiation is revealed to be to be phazon, a
radioactive material brought to the planet by a
meteor. The game has Samus exploring Talon IV,
retracing the steps of the space pirates and their
weapon development activities involving phazon
and also more insight into the Chozo race is provided.
