Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is the
sequel to Metroid Prime and is the second Metroid
game to be released on the the Nintendo Gamecube.
Echoes is also the first Metroid game to feature
a multiplayer (up to four players) element.
It loosely continues the story
of the first prime game but now now takes place
on the planet Aether. Many decade ago Aether was
struck by a meteor similar to the one that struck
Tallon IV. The planet is divided into two dimensions;
the light or good side is home the previous inhabitants
and protectors of Aether the Luminoth and the darkness
is inhabited by the evil Ing.
The Luminoth and Ing have fought
decades to decide which faction will survive and
rule Aether and the Luminoth were close to loosing
the war when Samus arrives on the planet to investigate
the loss of a shipload Galactic Federation marines
on Aether.
Not long after arriving she
discovers signs of space pirate activity on the
planet relating to the same radioactive Phazon
ore. She also learns of the Luminoth Ing struggle
and accepts the mission to reclaim the energy the
Luminoth lost in their struggles with the Ing which
is contained within temples in the dark dimension
of the planet and home of the Ing. Adding another
twist to the space pirate threat and the luminoth
dilemma is the presence of powerful clone of Samus,
created in her last battle with the Metroid Prime.
