Samus Aran is the main
fictional character in Nintendo's Metroid series of video
games. Samus is a bounty hunter with her main mission being
to aid the Galactic Federation in hunting down and defeating
the space pirates, who as their name applies is a space
traveling organization involved in all kinds of illegal
activities. Samus Aran wears a full body Power suit given to
her by an advanced but now extinct race called the Chozo.
The power suit has a number of advanced technologies integrated
into it such as an arm cannon and the ability to morph
is a ball a fraction of the size of the wearer.
Samus Aran was initially
thought to be a male inside a suit or a cyborg of some
kind, but players of the first Metroid game which was released
in the mid 1980's were in for a surprise at the end of
the game when it was revealed that the main character was
actually a female wearing an advanced suit. Over the years
and with each new installment in the Metroid series Samus'
feminine persona has been shown more and more to the point
now where newcomers to the series can identify the character
being female.
Over her twenty year
career Samus Aran and the Metroid series of games has engulfed players in a futuristic, scientific,
spacial world filled with unique creatures, sounds and
experiences. Much of her own life is still a mystery but
with each new game released more and more of her origin
and childhood is explained and how she has come to be the
mortal enemy of the viscous space pirates.
